Two different ways to exist in an AI answer: recommended means the engine names you as a pick; cited means the engine used your own pages as a source while answering, whoever it named. Absent is neither. Cited without recommended is common and fixable: the engines already trust your content, they just do not connect it to the pick.

Who wins what

The field, engine by engine, and the ground nobody holds yet.

How you are described

Being named is one thing; what is said once you are named is another. Every sentence below is quoted verbatim from an answer.

No answer in this scan described Mailchimp strongly enough to classify. That happens when a brand gets named in passing without any judgement. Winning more recommendations gives the engines something to say about you.

The landscape

Every winner, and how to take their ground

What the AIs did with each rival in this scan, measured August 21, 2026: where they get recommended, the question types and engines that never surface them, and the sources their picks travel with. Every figure is an observation of the engines' answers on the scan date, not a judgment of the company. Each card ends with your opening: the contested ground you can take.

Chapter four

Your own pages

What the engines find when they arrive, and where to get published.

What the engines find on Mailchimp's own pages

Mechanical checks from reading 4 pages of your site: no judgment, just what a crawler sees.

Structured data (ld+json)

“Email & SMS Marketing Platform | Mailchimp”names your offer or area

The site audit you ordered: we read 5 pages of your own site and checked them against the core buyer questions this scan asked. Every finding below quotes the evidence it stands on; nothing is scored, guessed or padded.

Why it is not getting cited

What keeps the engines from reading, trusting and lifting answers from these pages.

  • Structured data lacks FAQPage

Evidence: ld+json present (Organization, Service, WebPage) but no FAQPage block on any of the 5 pages

Add the missing block types; FAQ and Service markup are what map your pages onto the questions buyers ask.

    yourself
Free: extend the existing JSON-LD, the hard part is done.
  • No page answers the questions buyers ask

Evidence: none of the 5 pages answers any of the 12 buyer questions this scan asked; the page headings are 'Industries and Solutions', 'Integrations', 'Most Popular', 'Most Popular', 'Resources', 'Account'

Publish one plain page per question, answering it in the words a buyer uses; that page is the raw material engines lift answers from.

    yourself
Free: the full question list is in this report.
  • No dated content anywhere

Evidence: no dates or time elements found on any of the 5 pages

Engines favour sites that show signs of life; date your work and publish something with a date on it.

    yourself
Free: dated posts, dated portfolio entries, a changelog.

Why it is not converting

What loses the visitors who do arrive, judged from the pages' own text.

  • A stranger cannot tell what you do from the first screen

Evidence: the homepage opens with 'Email & SMS Marketing Platform | Mailchimp'

No H1 or opening body text is present in the extracted homepage content—only navigation menu items and a title tag, so a stranger cannot tell what is offered or where it operates from this content alone.

    yourself
    Free: one headline edit.
  • Competing calls to action

Evidence: the pages ask for several next steps at equal weight: Log In Sign Up ... Pricing ... Switch to Mailchimp

Multiple equally-weighted asks (Sign Up, Log In, Pricing, Switch to Mailchimp, Get started today) compete without a single clear primary action.

    yourself
Free: styling and placement, no new content.
  • Trust signals are missing

Evidence: not found in the text of any fetched page: customer reviews or testimonials, credentials or awards; present: real contact details

Add the missing proof: named customer reviews, credentials, and a phone number or email a visitor can actually use.

    yourself
Free: you already have the reviews and credentials, publish them.
  • Dead weight: Repeated duplicate navigation menu structure with no buyer content

Evidence: 'Main Menu Close Main Menu Main Menu'

Cut it; every screen a buyer scrolls past costs attention.

    yourself
    Free: deletion.
  • Dead weight: Language switcher list with no buyer-relevant information

Evidence: 'EN EN English ES Español FR Français BR Português DE Deutsch IT Italiano'

Cut it; every screen a buyer scrolls past costs attention.

    yourself
    Free: deletion.

Demand signals

What this market is asking for

Where buyer questions show demand that nobody, you included, is clearly answering: candidate services and products to develop or make explicit, each grounded in this scan's own data.

  • a dedicated agency/multi-client management offering for marketing agencies handling multiple client accounts

Evidence: the buyer question 'what email marketing tool should marketing agencies use for clients' appears in the scan but no agency-specific offer or specialty is listed on Mailchimp's site

First step: publish a landing page outlining a multi-client workspace or agency plan and test search interest via that page's traffic

  • a nonprofit-tailored email and sms marketing plan with nonprofit pricing

Evidence: the question 'best email marketing platform for nonprofits' was asked in the scan yet nonprofits are not mentioned among Mailchimp's specialties or offers

First step: create a nonprofit pricing tier page and see if it captures nonprofit-related search and question traffic

  • a transparent, comparison-style pricing hub directly addressing Mailchimp vs Klaviyo and Brevo pricing

Evidence: autocomplete shows heavy demand for 'Mailchimp pricing', 'Mailchimp alternatives', 'Klaviyo email pricing', and 'Brevo pricing/alternatives', and the buyer question 'Mailchimp vs Klaviyo for ecommerce' appears unanswered with no clear recommendation

First step: build a side-by-side pricing/feature comparison page targeting these exact autocomplete terms and monitor engagement

  • a clearly marketed free or low-cost starter plan positioned for solopreneurs and very small businesses

Evidence: buyer questions 'best free email marketing platform for small business' and 'best email marketing tool for solopreneurs' appear in the scan but no free tier or solopreneur-specific specialty is listed on Mailchimp's site

First step: add a solopreneur-focused free-plan landing page and track signups from that segment over one month

Chapter five

What to do

Ordered by what moves the number, with the evidence behind each one.

The plan

6 actions, ordered. 2 you can do this week.

Generated from this scan's own data: the exact domains, questions and gaps above, ordered by expected impact. Every action names its specifics; each carries an honest effort tag. All of it is yours to do without us.

  1. 01

Publish a dedicated page titled 'Is Mailchimp Worth It for a Small Business?' answering directly with pricing, features, and limitations.

why('is Mailchimp worth it for a small business') already gets Mailchimp recommended on 5 of 8 engines (Perplexity, Grok, Gemini, DeepSeek, Llama) but mailchimp.com is only cited as a source on Perplexity out of those 5 - the other 4 engines answer without pointing to the buyer's own site.

DIY · a day or two
  2. 02

Publish a comparison page titled 'Mailchimp vs Klaviyo for Ecommerce' with a clear feature/price table addressing.

why('Mailchimp vs Klaviyo for ecommerce') has Mailchimp recommended on 7 of 8 engines but it loses the head-to-head to Klaviyo (8 vs 7 picks) and mailchimp.com is cited only once (Perplexity) across those 7 recommending engines.

DIY · a day or two
  3. 03

Publish a page titled 'Best Email Marketing Software for Ecommerce Stores' covering automation, segmentation, and integrations to target.

why('best email marketing software for ecommerce stores') is a question Mailchimp is recommended on 4 engines (Claude, Gemini, Mistral, Llama) for, but mailchimp.com is cited zero times on this question, while Klaviyo and Omnisend win it outright (8 picks each).

DIY · a day or two
  4. 04

Add an FAQPage ld+json block to the site covering the exact wording of, and ('best free email marketing platform for small business').

whyThe site audit found ld+json types limited to Organization, Service, WebPage with no FAQPage block on any of the 5 crawled pages, and a few core buyer questions are answered anywhere on the site.

    DIY · under an hour
  5. 05

Pursue inclusion or an updated listing on emailtooltester.com (55 citations across Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Gemini) and emailvendorselection.com (45 citations across Claude, Perplexity, Grok).

whyThese two domains are the single most-cited sources in the entire scan, well above mailchimp.com's own 35 citations, and appear on questions like, and where Mailchimp is recommended but its own domain is never cited.

    needs help
  6. 06

Rewrite the homepage opening from 'Email & SMS Marketing Platform | Mailchimp' to a single clear value statement and reduce the competing calls to action ('Log In', 'Sign Up', 'Pricing', 'Switch to Mailchimp') to one primary CTA.

whyThe site audit flagged that a stranger cannot tell what the business does from the first screen and that several next steps compete at equal weight on the same pages.

    DIY · under an hour

How to read the forecasts

Each expected result is a conditional estimate based on published experiments and large-scale studies of what AI engines cite, not a promise of placement. The engines are third parties: they choose their own sources, change their models without notice, and refresh their indexes on their own schedule. Two things outside our control set the timing. First, re-crawling and indexing, which can take anywhere from hours to several weeks. Second, whether an answer comes from live retrieval, which updates quickly once a page is indexed, or from a model's trained memory, which only updates when that model is retrained months later. We optimize the inputs the evidence supports; the engines make the final call.

The checkpoint

This report is dated August 21, 2026.

Most of these 6 actions change numbers that only a second scan can show you. Tracking is this exact scan, re-run every week under this same link, with the leaderboard trended, the source map diffed, and an email when something material moves. Every run includes the site audit.

The AI Visibility Score blends four measured rates: how often the engines pick you (weighted heaviest), how often they mention you, your share of all recommendations, and the tone when you are named. When too few answers name you to judge tone, the other three carry the score.

Each question was asked once per engine with live web search enabled, the way the consumer apps answer, and every cited source URL was captured. Answers where an engine's search variant failed fell back to a plain call and are counted honestly outside the search-enabled number.

Sampling honesty: AI answers vary run to run, so your recommendation rate is best read as a range: 62% of analysed answers, and a re-run should land between 55.1% and 68.4% (19 times out of 20). To measure stability, a subset of questions was asked twice on every engine: the two passes returned the same recommendation set 22% of the time. Single runs are snapshots; treat trends, not ticks, as the signal.

A standardized set of real buyer questions for email marketing platforms, written in English, held constant within a scan period and rotated over time so results stay comparable and resistant to gaming, each asked with a neutral system prompt and live web search enabled, the way the consumer apps answer, across ChatGPT (gpt-5.2), Claude (claude-sonnet-5), Perplexity (sonar), Grok (grok-4-latest), Gemini (openrouter/google/gemini-2.5-flash), DeepSeek (deepseek/deepseek-chat-v3.1), Mistral (mistralai/mistral-large-2512), Llama (Meta AI) (meta-llama/llama-4-maverick). Every answer was captured live at scan time and classified for which names were mentioned and which were recommended; cited counts come from the source URLs each engine returned with its answer, matched to each entity's own domain. Counts are per answer; an engine naming a business twice in one answer counts once. Winner findings are counted co-occurrence within this run, not causation. We sell no placement, ranking or remediation, so a score cannot be bought. No human reviewed this report before delivery, and small niches can swing between runs; if a figure looks wrong, reply to your report email and we will re-check it.

To tailor the questions, the scan read 4 pages of Mailchimp's own site and extracted only what the site itself says: email marketing, email & sms marketing, ecommerce marketing automations, ai-powered marketing. Nothing beyond the site's own words was assumed.

If you want this done with you rather than by you: the human-written AI Visibility Report ($1,990) reads your pages one by one, and the sprint ($2,990, report included) implements the plan on your site. Your scan payment is credited toward either in full; reply to your report email. That is the only pitch in this report.
